Vallana , Thomas F. 71

Derry

Thomas F. Vallana, 71, of Derry, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, in UPMC Presbyterian. He was born Sept. 16, 1942, in Latrobe, a son of the late Daniel A. and Mary Barron Vallana. Tom was a graduate of St. Vincent College. He was an avid photographer, having had some of his photos used by a greeting card company. His favorite subjects were covered bridges and nature subjects. He was a past member of the Historical Society of New Derry and a past member of the Westmoreland County Archeological Society. He currently volunteered at the New Alexandria Library doing genealogy work as well as volunteering at the Ligonier Library. His favorite pastimes included gardening and woodworking. Tom is survived by his sister, Joan Kratofil (Jim), of Derry; and his brother, Vincent Vallana, of Auburn Hills, Mich.; nephews, Randy Kratofil, of Clairton, Mark Kratofil (Natalie), of Latrobe, and Jason Vallana (Monica), of Englewood, Colo.; niece, Sheri Vallana Brown (Clinton), of Albuquerque, N.M.; and great-nieces and nephews, Amber, Jessica, Ashley, Joshua and Jonathan. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry, where a blessing service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with Father Stephen C. West officiating. Interment will follow in St. Martin Church Cemetery, New Derry.
